Anthrax is mentioned in the Book of Genesis as the fifth plague. It was discovered by German physicist Robert Koch, in 1875. The first vaccination was demonstrated on 25 sheep in may of 1881, by Louis Pasteur. This Disease is most commonly found in grazing animals, such as sheep, cows, and horses. Surprisingly, pigs are the most resistant to the bacteria.

Anthrax is caused by an endospore, called Bacillus anthracis. It can be ingested, inhaled, and live in your digestive track. It develops in soil, and is ingested by animals. Shepherds who come in contact with there sheep can inhale the spores, or touch an infected area can contract the disease. These people who come in contact with others will spread the disease and infect them as well.

what.png

Anthrax is caused by an endospore, called Bacillus anthracis. It is rod shaped and can live up to 70 years. This bacteria is very different than other bacteria's because it can lay dormant for many years. Once an animal come in contact with it, it reawakens and germinates within the animal. The spore don't do that much tissue damage, but when they germinate that is when you're in trouble.

When the spores enter the body (via airborne spores) the spores proceed to the lungs and germinate. Some of the bigger spores are destroyed by our immune system. The smaller ones enter the blood stream, causing haemorrhaging and tissue decay. Even smaller spores penetrate the alveoli in your lungs and cause meningitis. When Anthrax enters through a cut, painless sores with black centres and lymph node swelling. When ingested people suffer from nausea, fever, vomiting, loss of apatite, diarrhea and swollen neck.

In some certain situations, anthrax can be cured with early treatment. When anthrax occurs on the skin, known as cutaneous, it can be cured with antibiotics. Pulmonary anthrax is only a medical emergency. It is a reportable disease, meaning that any health agency must know if anthrax is present. They can decipher what kind of anthrax you have and get the proper treatment. If you have the symptoms concerning anthrax go to your local doctor or hospital.

Anthrax spreads through animals and bioterrorism, which is where it is used as a weapon. The spores from anthrax live in the soil for a long period of time in which farm animals eat and digest. Humans then can get affected by touching, handling, or breathing in being around animals. Also, can get infected by uncooked meat.

Most important thing is if you live near where the spores of anthrax are in the air, stay clear of farm land, livestock, and contact with animal skins. A major one would be to properly cook meat fully and not to eat half cooked meats.
